Control, Influence, Acceptance

When it comes to our emotional well-being, it is important to find a balance between control, influence, and acceptance. We need to be able to exert control over our lives where it is possible, yet we must also be able to accept things that are out of our control.
We also need to be able to influence others in a positive way, but then again, also be able to accept their opinions and decisions.
It’s natural to want to be in control of everything, but the reality is that there are a lot of things that are out of our control. That’s where influence comes in – it’s a more subtle way of getting things done.
Influence is the ability to shape or change the course of events through persuasion or example. It is the power to affect the behavior or opinions of others. Influence is, at its best, a more subtle form of control, and it is often more effective in getting things done.
And when we can’t control something in our life, and weh ave no way to influence the outcome, so, more-or-less, all else fails – then acceptance is the key to moving forward. It’s important to be able to accept the things that we can’t change, just as it is important to move on.
It’s not always possible or healthy to be in control all the time, but by being able to influence others and to accept things as they are, we can still make positive changes in our lives, even achieve our goals! Learning how to navigate through life using the wisdom of knowing to ask ourselves: „Is this situation about something I can control, or something I can influence?“ And understanding how to go about that (tip: it is a mindset as much as a skill!), will make life a whole lot easier! And if all else fails, having an internal, self-coaching process that can helps us to accept what we cannot change, influence or control, will also serve us: by giving us back agency over our behaviour, and that, my friends, is what we need to keep our peace of mind.
