“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” – Winston Churchill
Hi! I’m Bernard Kates.
I’m a Transformational Leadership Coach and Mentor, based in southern New South Wales, Australia.
If you’d like to know more about the coaching and mentoring work that I do, feel free to book a 30-minute discovery session with me using my scheduling page below. Alternatively you can contact me via email.
I was born and grew up in the south of England and I’ve had a widely – some would say wildly! – varied career so far. My jobs have included seafaring on oil tankers, authoring technical manuals, project engineering, export sales and account management, engineering consultancy, and emergency services work both as a Volunteer and as a full-time career officer. In my time I’ve experienced highs and lows, successes and a few failures. I’ve made many friends in my travels around the world.
My life journey so far has taught me a great many lessons. The experience I’ve gained has led me to a deep understanding of who I am and what I want to do with my life. I’ve noticed that a great many people struggle with the very same things that I struggled with, often without even being aware that they are struggling.
Over the years I’ve held many and various leadership positions where I’ve focused on working with people, empowering them, encouraging them and helping them to help themselves. I’ve found that as a leader, by exercising the principles of modern, applied psychology I can help people to become more aware of themselves and what it is that motivates them, or holds them back. I’ve helped people to free themselves from tangled webs of confusion and limiting beliefs so that they could get a clear picture of who they are and what they want to become in life. By helping to remove these blocks, I’ve led people – as individuals and in teams – to achieve things they had never previously thought they could attain.
I’m now applying what I learned, both through formal education and from my lived experience, to guide and mentor the next generation of leaders so that they, in their turn, can go on to become the kind of transformational leader that the world so badly needs.
And that’s the story so far!
